Lovely casitas, each a replica of a traditional adobe farmhouse, are on a working dairy and coffee farm once owned by former Costa Rican president Rodrigo Carazo and set in the middle of the Los Angeles cloud forest. The main farmhouse contains the reception desk, bar, and restaurant; casitas with whitewashed walls, tile floors, cane ceilings, and fireplaces are on a hill below, facing the forest from private terraces. Resident guides lead nature walks through the adjacent
cloud-forest reserve, which is excellent bird-watching territory. Horses are available for exploring the rest of the farm. These folks have made "sustainability" their watchword: production of organic food, an extensive recycling program, and use of biodegradable materials whenever possible are all part of the operations here.
