Despite the relative isolation—you're several kilometers beyond Tabacón—this is a favorite among Fodors.com posters, largely because each hillside room has a huge picture window and door opening to an individual balcony with stupendous volcano views. Rooms are decorated with locally made art and bamboo-frame beds, and suites have vaulted ceilings, garden showers, and private whirlpools. A few cottages are tucked away on the grounds and make ideal getaways for families.
The spa and two pools make it a relaxing stay. The location, a short drive above the Arenal Dam, makes this a good bet if you have your own vehicle, but taxis can ferry you to and from area attractions, too.

I loved Lost Iguana. We splurged and got the room with the jacuzzi bathtub on the outdoor patio. Nothing beat watching the volcano while sitting the tub. The people at this resort were really friendly and helpful. The decor was a tropical theme. The room was also very large and comfortable. If there's room, you could take the employee shuttle into town. Oh and do take advantage of the poolside happy hour.

This is a wonderfully relaxing place; every room has great views, hummingbirds abound, the pool/rancho area is lovely, and the restaurant setting is beautiful. The menu is varied, and fairly reasonable. We found that the location was very close to a hanging bridge site, the grounds have very nice nature trails, and all in all, this is an ideal place to spend time on your private patio and watch Arenal.

I stayed here in 2005 when it was still being developed. The Lost Iguana was the highlight locale of our trip to both the coasts. Monteverde and San Jose. We visited in June. We had volcano views from our room, without clouds and with lava and smoke the whole 3 nights/4 days. We were able to take taxis to the Tabacon hot springs resort, to zip lining, and La Fortuna, no problem; no car needed. We LOVED the staff and the owner is down-to-earth
and lovely. The resort itself is beautiful and clean and very nice. There is hiking and swinging bridges thru the rainforest within walking distance. I give it 5 stars all around!
