Fodor's Review

The "Golden Toad" has grown through the years to become a very pleasant hotel with a terrific restaurant and lots of on-site nature activities. Owner Geovanny Arguedas's family arrived here to farm 10 years before the Quakers did, and he and his wife, Hannah Lowther, have built secluded hillside cabins with polished paneling, tables, fireplaces, and rocking chairs. The restaurant ($$) is well known for its pastas, pizza, vegetarian dishes, and sailfish from Puntarenas.
