Fodor's Review

This is traditionally the surfer's hangout in Tamarindo, where the talk around the pool bar is all about surfing. The place has been looking a little bedraggled of late, but some redecorating is underway. The large villas with kitchens have a bedroom with a double bed and two futon couches, handy for groups of friends on a budget. Avoid Rooms 101 to 107, which face the pool's supporting wall. Poolside rooms can be noisy when the area is filled with frolicking kids. Even

though it's across the street from the beach, it's still quite close to Tamarindo's beach break, and a quick paddle to the river-mouth break and Playa Grande. Roxy Quiksilver Surf School sells gear in the hotel's surf shop and offers lessons, including mother-and-daughter lessons. Surfing legends Robert August and Wing Nuts, of Endless Summer movie fame, still make occasional visits. Sunset happy hour here is very popular.
