Blue River Resort

600 m west of Rio Celeste Bridge, Rincón de la Vieja National Park, Costa Rica

Named for the blue river that flows nearby, this property on the volcano's northern slope is known more for its hot springs and activities than for its rustic cabin accommodations. Most guests stay four nights to maximize a variety of day tours like hiking, horseback riding, zip-lining, and tubing down the majestic Río Azul. Room rates are for up to five people per cabin, each 750 square feet, with walk-in closets, queen beds, and a front porch with hammocks. Guests have access to a sauna, gym, and spa, as well as mud baths, butterfly gardens, and hot springs. The remote location, 114 km (71 miles) from the main entrance to Rincón de la Vieja National Park, means meals are limited to the hotel’s single restaurant.
