This simple garden dining spot in the far northern Central Valley makes a great breakfast stop if you’re on your way to the Caribbean. Fortify yourself with the tradicional (gallo pinto, eggs, bread, and coffee) or americano (ham, eggs, bacon, toast, and juice) breakfasts. Lunch gives way to light lasagnas, soups, crepes, and salads. You’ll appreciate the variety of coffee drinks here; there’s a bit of a chill in this higher-elevation sector of the valley.
More than 40 versions of pizza baked in a wood-burning oven are the main event at this popular upscale Italian eatery. Every pizza comes with a trio of condiments to spice it up to your taste: homemade hot chili or a garlicky sauce, and grated cheese. Framed black-and-white photos of famous Italians eating spaghetti may inspire you to try one of the decent homemade pastas. There's also an exhaustive menu of meat and chicken cooked Italian style—juicy beef tenderloin substitutes for veal in all the classic Italian veal dishes. Italian wine can be ordered by the glass, carafe, or bottle. Two large-screen TVs with sports add to the happy buzz indoors on busy nights; the tables out on the wrought-iron-enclosed patio lend themselves better to conversation, once rush-hour traffic has subsided.
