Small and very affordable, this family-run hotel has easy access to Tapantí park and its own 175-acre private reserve with waterfalls. The number of bird species in the lodge's gardens alone is impressive, especially hummingbirds. In bungalows above the main lodge, the simple double rooms are on the small side, with just enough room for a double and a single bed (and the bathrooms are tiny), but their porches have views of a jungle-laden hillside. Two larger rooms at a lower level each have a double bed and a bunk bed. The restaurant serves a small selection of Costa Rican food; fresh trout raised in nearby ponds is the best option. You can also catch your own trout and have them cook it for you.
