You don't come here for the beach—it's not the prettiest stretch of sand—but the water is shallow and calm, and the attractive Tambor Tropical is a convenient base for anyone interested in sportfishing, horseback riding, or bird-watching, or for those who simply seek an intimate setting in which to loll by the pool. The two-story houses are entirely built and furnished with varnished, tropical hard woods: floors, ceilings, walls, and even toilet seats. The large windows running across the front give them a great view of the sea and surrounding gardens—second-floor rooms have the be but are a little pricier. Platform beds provide sunrise views. The sea breeze and ceiling fans cool the rooms better than air-conditioning, and the lack of televisions inspires rest and relaxation. Carefully prepared and presented meals are served beside a lovely blue-tile pool or in the thatch dining room during the rainy months; on Monday they have a popular barbecue. The hotel also offers bird-watching tours with local guides.
