Agapi Review

Agapi means "love" in Greek, and the Costa Rican-Greek owners lovingly watch over their guests with attentive service. Twelve furnished apartments overlook the beach and come complete with fully equipped kitchen, hot-water bath, hammock, mosquito nets over the beds, and private balcony. An additional five rooms have two full-size beds each, and all have an ocean view. A common area in the back contains a beachside barbecue.

Great for Middle of The Road Budget on The Beach

I do not understand these harshly negative reviews. I notice that they were many years ago.
Agapi is where I stayed for 3 weeks before I moved to the Puerto Viejo area. I enjoyed it very much for what I was paying.
No, they don't have AC and neither does almost everyplace in the Caribbean of Costa Rica. Puerto Viejo is NOT for everyone... but that is what makes it special.
Hotel is right on beach and just south of town. Rooms from about $45 up. Many with full kitchens etc.
