Fodor's Review

Each of the tropical blue units here contains a living room and bedroom with bamboo furnishings, a queen bed, and bunks. We like the two rooms on the upper balcony with stupendous ocean views and overlooking the gurgling, fountain-fed pool. The restaurant serves superb pizza.

Totem Review

I was on spring break with 4 other girls and we all had the time of our lives in Costa Rica. We stayed at three different hotels throughout the trip and Hotel Totem was by far the best. We had a smooth check in and were welcomed wonderfully. The rooms far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a suite that had 2 queen beds and also bunk beds. The rooms and decor was amazing. Right outside our room on the balcony we had a private pool and great view

of the ocean. Breakfast in the morning was incredible, banana pancakes, egg bakes, fresh fruit..anything imaginable. We used many resources from the hotel as well, such as day trips we took ie. snorkeling in Cahuita, Canopy tour and waterfall in Manzanillo, surf lessons right out side the hotel, Arenal Economical Tour including horseback riding, waterfall, volcano tour, and Baldi Spas. Hotel totem was wonderful and you will not regret your stay!

Totem Review

I just can recommend this Hotel to anyone I stayed in Hotel TOTEM for the first time. I was there on business trip and I appreciated the great Internet Service which they offer for free. The Hotel is very close to the Beach but is a very quiet place at night. The staff was very helpful and the food in the Restaurant at the Beach was just enjoyable.

Totem Review

My boyfriend and I stayed at Totem because our first choice was booked, boy are we glad that happened. Totem Hotel is THE BEST location in Playa Cocles. While almost all of the hotels are on the opposite side of a very dusty dirt road away from the beach, as is Totem. It is the only hotel we saw that you could walk out of, cross the road and have your feet in the sand. (the sand is 15 feet from the entrance) Most of the beach at Playa Cocles is bordered

by 10-100feet of forest. The small area in front of Totem Hotel is the only place in the area that has direct beach access. You can watch the waves during breakfast. There are two small pools and a cool shaded area with hammocks to lounge in. It is tropical, quiet and you can hear howler monkeys and jungle nightlife during the night. Both pools were clean and fun to relax in. The rooms were cute and comfortable. For anyone complaining of bugs or other creatures....welcome to Costa Rica. All of the hotels in this area are set back in the jungle and small lizards and bugs are bound to end up in your room at some point. If this bothers you, Costa Rica is not your kind of place. That is not to say that the rooms are dirty or infested with creatures, which ours was not. It was clean. But we did find some sort of centipede under the bed and a bat on our front porch :)....they are all over the area. This is not the fault of the hotel. However, please note that this hotel is jungle rustic and not the Ritz Carlton. I would recommend this hotel highly to anyone prizing the best location in the area, who enjoys a taste of tropical paradise and a laid back atmosphere. As a final side note: About 5 minutes south of this hotel is an animal shelter run by a local woman. For 10$ you can see some of the countries most poisonous snakes and PLAY WITH BABY MONKEYS!!!! It was possibly the best two hours of my life. As Niko at the Totem Hotel for directions!!!!

Very much recomended!!!

A wonderful hotel with a great surfing atmosphere. Just across the beach, close to all the action but still a nice place to chill with some nice food and drinks. Lovely people managing the hotel. Unfortunately no surf possibilities while we were there (Oct 2008), but plenty other cool things to do as the village was within walking distance of the hotel
