Fodor's Expert Review Mystica Lodge & Retreats
Hwy. 142, Nuevo Arenal, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Editor's Note: This location is reported to be under new ownership and therefore this review may contain inaccuracies.
It’s all about healing, yoga, and relaxation at this Italian-owned lodge, where you can enjoy treetop therapies next to the river or sway in a hammock overlooking Lake Arenal (the property is halfway between Tilarán and Nuevo Arenal). Stone pathways cut through manicured gardens, past the restaurant to lovely accommodations. Take your pick from standard rooms in the main lodge, a private villa, a two-bedroom home, or a jungle cabin where nocturnal wildlife might lead to sleepless nights. The six standard rooms have a zen atmosphere with wooden terraces, white duvets, colorful murals, and halogen lamps mounted on driftwood headboards. For something a bit more luxurious, request the villa or house (with full kitchens) or the jungle cabin with glass walls and an outdoor waterfall shower. Most guests come here to unplug, meaning there are no TVs, phones, or Wi-Fi in the rooms. Despite the fact it's branded as a yoga retreat, you'll need to book a lesson at least a day in advance.
