Belize Travel Guide
Belize has some shuttle services, primarily between Belize City and San Ignacio, though shuttles also are available to Placencia, Chetumal, Mexico, and elsewhere. Most hotels and lodges in Cayo will arrange round-trip van transfers for guests to and from the international airport in Belize City for BZ$250–BZ$450 for up to four passengers. William's Shuttle in the Cayo offers van transfers to and from Belize City (rates depend on the number of passengers). Belize Shuttles in Belize City has both scheduled and on-demand shuttles between the international airport and San Ignacio, at BZ$70 per person for the scheduled shuttles and BZ$180 for a private shuttle for up to three persons and BZ$30 for additional persons. Belize Discounted Shuttles offers transfers from the international airport to San Ignacio for BZ$90 per person, to Placencia for BZ$150 per person, and Corozal for BZ$120 per person. Minimum of two persons in all cases, tax included. This shuttle company also offers tours to major visitor sites on the mainland from around BZ$100–BZ$220 per person. In the north, Belize VIP Transfers will whisk you across the border to Chetumal for around BZ$70 per person (not including the BZ$37.50 Belize exit fee).
San Juan Travel, Línea Dorada, and Fuente del Norte run daily vans or minibuses between Belize City and Flores, Guatemala, for BZ$50–BZ$60. These fares don't include exit fees of BZ$37.50 when leaving Belize by land.
Shuttles in Guatemala are private minivans that hold up to eight passengers. They're faster and more comfortable than public buses. Public minivans from the Belize border to Santa Elena near Flores cost around US$5; they're often packed. Taxi shuttles from the border to Tikal or Flores are around US$45–US$70 for up to four passengers, depending on your bargaining ability. Shuttles between Flores and Tikal charge a flat US$5 per person round-trip and run frequently, starting at 5 am from Flores.
Reservations are generally required for shuttle service in both Belize and Guatemala. Some may ask for payment up front; before obliging, be sure you're dealing with a reputable company.
