Fodor's Review

Relax beside a meandering jungle river, listen to otters splash, and admire colorful tropical birds and butterflies at this small lodge on 30 placid acres beside the Rio Grande River. This is a birder's paradise: 350 species have been recorded within 5 mi (8 km) of the lodge. Owners Marta and Rob Hirons—she's an American who has lived abroad for many years, and he's English—built six pleasant thatch cabañas with tile floors and private baths. They added two more cabins with metal roofs and air-conditioning. The owners helped develop the Living Maya Experience at homes in Big Falls village and have been involved in many other activities to promote Toledo District.
