Cohune Palms River Cabañas

Fodor's Review:

This charming spot has five thatched cabañas set among palms on a small peninsula on the Mopan River. Cooled by breezes from the river, you can lounge in a hammock while checking your e-mail by Wi-Fi, and then swing into the water on a rope. Get your questions about El Pilar and other nearby Mayan sites answered by the co-owner, Bevin Waight, an American anthropologist who originally came to Belize on an archeological dig. The open-air restaurant serves Belizean dishes using local ingredients, along with pasta and seafood, and vegetarian options are available. The lodge offers free pickup from San Ignacio. Pros: Excellent moderately priced lodge, knowledgeable owners. good food. Cons: May be tough to leave.
