You'll enjoy the best views in the Cayo at this resort set on a high hill at the western edge of San Ignacio, near the Cahal Pech Maya site. Local owners Daniel and Miriam Silva opened the hotel in 1994 and have been expanding and improving it ever since. The latest additions are new cottages and rooms and a gorgeous two-level swimming pool, watched over by a giant statue of a pterodactyl. You have a choice here of thatch cabañas or air-conditioned rooms. The restaurant, while not a gourmet spot, serves tasty Belizean and American fare (such as grilled fish, pork chops, spaghetti, and steaks) in an open-air space with views of the valley below. It usually bustles with guests and locals stopping in for a bite and a Belikin. Pros: Great views, enticing pool, good value. Cons: Some rooms are a bit dowdy.
