Fodor's Review:

On private land, Actun Chechem Ha, which means "Cave of the Poisonwood Water," is a Mayan burial cave with artifacts that date back two millennia. There are many pots and a stela used for ceremonial purposes. To examine some of the pottery, you'll have to climb ladders, and getting to the cave requires a 35-minute walk, mostly uphill. Tour companies visit here from San Ignacio.

  • Cost: BZ$50 for guided tour for up to 3 people, if arranged with owner; tours including transportation from San Ignacio or your lodge and often including lunch and swimming at Vaca Falls are around BZ$100 per person
  • Open: By appointment
