Mopan River Resort Review

Belize's first truly all-inclusive resort is still one of the best values in the Cayo, although rates have increased significantly—once you've taken the short, private ferry trip across the Mopan River to the resort's manicured, palm-studded, 90-acre grounds, you're in your own private bit of paradise, and everything except border fees and site admission charges is included in the price, from meals and drinks to trips to Tikal and Barton Cave, transfers from Belize City, and even taxes and tips. A week's stay including everything starts at BZ$8,752 double. Border fees and admission charges will add about BZ$600 for two persons per week. Minimum stay is three days (BZ$4,100 for a couple, all-inclusive). The thatch cabañas and luxury suites have traditional facades, but have modern amenities like cable TV, air-conditioning, and refrigerators with gratis soft drinks and beer. The swimming pool, lighted by constantly changing fiber-optic lights, provides a romantic setting for a late-night swim. Buffet meals are taken family-style, so you get to know the other guests.
