Tours in The Cayes and Atolls

From Ambergris and Caulker, and from smaller cayes with advance planning, you can do day trips to the mainland to see Mayan ruins, try cave tubing, visit the Belize Zoo, and do other activities. However, because you have to get from the islands to the mainland, and then to your destination, the cost will be higher than if you did the tour from a closer point.

From Ambergris Caye, a full-day cave tubing trip, combined with lunch and a visit to the zoo, runs around BZ$300 per person. A trip to Lamanai, including lunch and drinks, costs about BZ$270. A visit to Altun Ha, combined with lunch and a stop at Maruba Spa, is around BZ$150-BZ$200. Tours are slightly less expensive from Caye Caulker. A Lamanai trip runs about BZ$220, and one to Altun Ha and Maruba about BZ$160, not including lunch at Maruba. All tour guides in San Pedro and on Caye Caulker should be members of their respective associations—if in doubt, ask to see identification. Among San Pedro's top tour operators are Tanisha Tours, which offers excellent trips to Altun Ha and Lamanai, along with manatee-spotting trips, cave tubing, and others.

On Caye Caulker, Chocolate is the best-known guide and tour operator, though he is semiretired. He and the people he has trained are known for their full-day manatee trips.
