On Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, there are no car rentals, but you can rent a golf cart. If you have a choice, get a gas cart rather than an electric so you don't run out of juice at an inopportune time; gas carts have a much longer range. Golf-cart rentals cost about as much as a car rental in the U.S.—around BZ$100-BZ$120 a day, or BZ$500 a week. Compare prices and ask for discounts.

To drive a cart, you'll need a valid driver's license from your home country. On Ambergris Caye, there are a half-dozen cart-rental companies; Moncho's, Castle Cars, and Cholo's are three of the largest. Your hotel can also arrange a cart rental. If crossing the new bridge to North Ambergris, golf carts are charged BZ$10 round-trip, and pedestrians BZ$2. The bridge is open 24 hours. On Caye Chapel, golf carts are included in the daily rate. Bicycles are for rent on Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker for around BZ$10-BZ$12 a day, or BZ$80 a week.
