Novelist and long-time Belize resident Julie Babcock built three new beachfront condos, which opened in 2007, to go with her two small casitas, at the north end of town. The small complex was designed to have a colonial atmosphere—with thatched roofs on the porches, wooden shutters, and traditional hardwood railings—but built to modern architectural standards. The great rooms in the condo units have cathedral ceilings, track lighting, and tile floors. There's a small pool and a new pier. Pros: Pleasant, well-designed small condo colony, quiet, beachfront spot. Cons: A few management wrinkles still need to be worked out.
