Glover's Atoll Resort Review

If you want to experience the stunning Glover's Atoll setting on the cheap, this is your best bet. Glover's Atoll Resort-the word resort is a bit of a misnomer-is nothing if not basic, with no hot water, no electricity, and absolutely no frills. But the 9-acre island with a million acres of sea are gorgeous, and the prices are right, starting at BZ$198 a week for camping or BZ$600 a week for an over-the-water cabaña (all rates per person plus 9% tax). Snorkeling is among the best in Belize, and nearby fishing outside the protected marire reserve and diving (the lodge has a divemaster to take you out, less than BZ$100) are excellent. One catch is that you'll have to go to the atoll on the lodge boat from Hopkins on Sunday, returning the next Saturday. If you go at another time, you'll face a BZ$700 charter fee each way. Although some supplies and fairly expensive meals are available on the island, most people bring their own food, water, drinks, and other supplies, catching fish to balance out their island diet. Even if you stay in the over-the-water cabañas, the best choice, this is still a lot like camping out.
