Americans Rick and Darla Mallory renovated this 1938 British colonial-era house and turned it into one of the most pleasant small guesthouses in the country. It's near the sea at the end of Front Street, about as far south as you can go on paved roads in Belize. You'll recognize the house by coral-color paint and the vintage VW van parked in front. The four guest rooms have tile floors, new beds, air-conditioning, and wireless high-speed Internet. There's a small pool and complimentary bikes. Breakfast is included in rates. Owners also manage a nearby, newly renovated private rental home, available for BZ$200-$250 nightly (plus 9% tax), depending on length of stay. Pros: One of the best small inns in Belize; most comfort amenities provided, from a/c to pool to wireless. Con: No restaurant, so you'll have to go out for dinner.

I have stayed at Rick and Darla's place a dozen times. If you are road weary and just need a place to hang with no pretentious vibe, no crowd and the friendliest hosts I can even imagine stay at the Coral House!
