Corozal Bay Resort Review

This casual bayside resort has nicely done, moderately priced thatch cabañas in pastel colors and a restaurant and bar beside the pool. With more than an acre of beachfront on Corozal Bay, the hotel's large beach is courtesy of its owners, Doug and Maria Podzun, who trucked in tons of sand. (However, there is a seawall here.) The cabañas start at BZ$110 plus tax and are air-conditioned and have cable TV. The glass-walled palapa bar and restaurant have views of the bay. Bicycles for guests are complimentary. An additional 8 budget rooms are planned.

    Corozal Bay Resort Review

We got to the Corozal Bay Resort by luck. It was raining and lost, we turned down a street and there it was Corozal Bay Resort. The owners came out to the car with a huge umbrella to help us get dry to the office. About 1 hour later the rain quit and the beautiful sun came out. What a lovely spot we found. They have a cozy restaurant and bar under a huge thatch roof. The food and drinks were excellent. Killer wings and best burgers in Belize. Right next to the thatch roof is the swimming pool. The pool is open 24/7 and has lighting around (but not in) it for night swimming. We had a midnight swim and it was spectacular with the clear sky and full moon. The thatch roof rooms are so cozy. Hand painted sinks and all. A small fridge is provided to keep stuff cold. The air conditioner was cold and the shower hot. I fired up my laptop and was surprised at how good the internet was. Other places we stayed in Belize either did not have wifi or it was verrrry slow. We ended up staying 7 days and made good friends with the owners and staff. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Belize.

    Dirty and run down

The hotel in general is dirty and very run down with bottles strewn around the grounds, dirty outdoor bathrooms and green slime in the pool with no seating or umbrellas. The rooms are sparse and in much need of an update. Keep in mind that this hotel wants top dollar to stay here.
I would not recommend staying here. The hotel has potential, but requires new ownership/management to address these issues.
