Fodor's Review:
In scale and majesty, the public areas of this luxury brand compare to other Nuevo Vallarta all-inclusives like the Taj Majal to a roadside taco stand. Ceilings soar overhead, and the structure and furnishings are simultaneously minimalist and modern, yet earthy, incorporating stucco, rock, polished teak, and gleaming ecru marble. The spa is excellent, and the views -- with the garden-shrouded pool in the foreground and the beach beyond -- are striking. Rooms are sleek, with elegant furnishings and appointments. In terms of food and drink, the high price entitles you to top-of-the-line spirits in minibars and restaurants, but the food, in our experience, is not exceptional, and for a rack rate of over $1,000 per couple per night, all-inclusive, it should be.

Pricey but worth it

We stayed for 4 nights in May, 2006. The bed was fantastically comfortable, the room was quiet and restful, the service was great and atmosphere were wonderful. We were on the outside face of the hotel, and still had a beautiful view of the ocean. We found the food consistently delicious and expertly prepared (although one of our party got violently sick after eating raw fish -- but why the h#ll would you eat Sushi in Mexico??). We only got a low-pressure salespitch about buying a timeshare from the hotel personnel, not obnoxious at all (although BEWARE people hitting you up for this on the Malecon or elsewhere if you wear your "customer bracelet" to town - many high-pressure salespeople and scammers abound, and they ARE good at what they do). Take the bus into town and avoid the cabs -- the bus is only about 60 cents and it's well worth the fare and the ride is fun. We'll be back.
