Fodor's Review:
Gloria Whiting has owned this Old Vallarta original, which opened in 1955, for about 25 years, and some guests have been coming forever. That explains why most of the guests and staff seem like old friends. The restaurant, Chez Elena, once the toast of the town; the unadorned rooftop bar; and the best room (3-A) have nice views of the bay and of the city's red rooftops. Come to rub shoulders with Europeans and others who appreciate a bargain and a bit of history. Although it's less common today to hear roosters crowing or see donkeys clomp down the street, it's more likely here than elsewhere in PV. Rooms are plain, yet the traditional brick ceilings give a homey feel.
