Squares, La Paz
Fodor's Review:
The Malecón is La Paz's seawall, tourist zone, and social center all rolled into one. It runs along Paseo Alvaro Obregón and has a sidewalk as well as several park areas in the sand just off it. Paceños are fond of strolling the malecón at sunset. Teenagers slowly cruise the street in their spiffed-up cars, couples nuzzle on park benches, and grandmothers slowly walk along while keeping an eye on the kids. The malecón is undergoing a face-lift: stonework and wrought-iron street lamps line the walkway, and it's being extended all the way north to Playa Coromuel. Marina La Paz, at the malecón's southwest end, is an ever-growing development with condominiums, vacation homes, and a pleasant café-lined walkway.
