In Guadalajara taxis are safe, readily available, and reasonably priced. You can safely hail a cab on the street, but many people prefer to contact a taxi stand for service. All cabs are supposed to use meters (in Spanish, taximetro) -- you can insist the driver use it or else agree on a fixed price at the outset. Sitios (cab stands) are near all hotels and attractions. Fares go up about 25% after 10 PM. Cabs hailed at hotels are more expensive.
A cab to the airport costs $16-$18, and $5-$7 to the new bus station. The fare from downtown Guadalajara to Tlaquepaque is about $7 and about $7 to Tonalá; a cab from one to the other runs about $4.
