The T-shirts and bikinis hanging from the palapa roof at this windward-side hangout are a good indication of its party-time atmosphere. Jimmy Buffett tunes play in the background here, while lively crowds down cervezas (beers). The scene is more peaceful if you choose a palapa-shaded table on the rocks overlooking the water. The calamari and garlic shrimp are good enough to write home about. Assign a designated driver and hit the road home before dark (remember, there are no streetlights).

Rent-A-Jeep and go to the "Other Side"
Posted by Gayla from Tennessee on 7/22/06
Located on the windward side of the island, (there's always a breeze to cool you after fun in the sun), and only 20 minutes away from the downtown hub-bub, there is no better place to eat and drink than Coconuts. The food is great, my favorite being authentic American food, burger and fries, which was better than the local burger shack back home. The salsa (and chips) which is served to everyone is 100% fresh, so yummy with a kick. The waiters are the best on the island!! For all you animal lover's . . . there's a resident hen and rooster who love crushed up chips, two doggies - Margarita and Vanilla (my favorites), a kitty, a parrot, a parakeet habitat an iguana and a turtle. The view is wonderful, set way up on the only rock formation I saw while on the island ~ equivalent to a movie setting. Feel free to email me if you seek additional info.

Dine with the friendly Iguana

We rented a jeep and saw this little place on a cliff off in the distant. We were reluctant to stop because it seemed so remote. As we climbed the stairs through the beautiful garden we got to the top and saw an amazing view of the ocean. It was simple but friendly and the owner had a huge Iguana on his shoulder. We got a picture with the friendly lizard on my husbands head. We were seated at cliff side with a killer view. We all ordered something different and everything WAS OUTSTANDING. Infact, I have never had such great Mexican/seafood , so fresh and unique. We still talk about the amazing food and wonder what they used to season with. The view just made it breathtaking. I can't wait to go back and hope they never leave.

The cold beer, chips, salsa, guacamole, nachos, music and view were perfect for a hot afternoon. Bring a spare t-shirt to hang on the inside of the thatched roof, Also, the women can donate their thong and bra to hand on the ceiling for posterity,
