The Old City remains the province of budget lodgings. Some of its hostelries were at one time the grandest hotels in Central America; today, a bit of that elegance has faded, but these places still retain much character. International high-rise hotels have set up shop in the New City's Zonas 9 and 10. There are also a few smart and fashionable boutique hotels. The New City's proximity to the airport means that you hear the planes come and go when you stay there. Given the preponderance of business travelers who come to the capital, reservations are always a good idea during the week.
