$$, Costa Rican, Nicoya Coast
Fodor's Review:
It has the premier location on the beach, but this luxury hotel doesn't rest on its well-situated laurels. The service matches the unbeatable surroundings. At the restaurant ($$), next to the gorgeous palm-fringed pool, smartly uniformed waiters serve jumbo shrimp, lobster (for a reasonable $25), and fish fresh from the sea with Costa Rican accents, such as hearts of palm and pejibaye (a nutty palm fruit). The Continental breakfast includes heavenly, rich coffee and homemade bread. The hotel's design is modern, with elegant Costa Rica-made wood furniture and patterned ceramic tile floors. Arranged around an impressive topical garden, rooms are spacious, but a little bare. Three rooms have outdoor showers and soaking tubs in private patio gardens.
