In a class all its own, theMercado Artesania is the biggest emporium in the Southern Zone, filled with every imaginable -- and unimaginable -- souvenir. Large paintings by local artists, huge painted fans from Thailand, hammocks, beach clothes, and life-size snake carvings are just a few of the offerings here. Even if you don't buy a thing, it's fun to look. Ask the hotel manager to unlock the door and visit the Shell Museum, the hotel owner's personal, life-long collection of shells.
