Playa Guiones

Beaches, Nicoya Coast

Fodor's Review:

With some of the best surf breaks around, Playa Guiones attracts a lot of surfboard-toting visitors. But the breezy beach, with tendrils of sea grape curling almost down to the high-tide mark, is also a haven for shell seekers and sun lovers. The only building in sight is the bizarre, surreal Hotel Nosara, chronically under construction. Otherwise, this glorious beach has 7 km (4 mi) of hard-packed sand, great for jogging and riding bikes. Since there's a 3-meter tide, it's safer to go swimming at either high or low tide, and avoid the strong currents when the tide is turning. Most hotels post tide charts. Guiones is at the south end of the Nosara agglomeration, with three public accesses. The easiest one to find is just past the Hotel Harmony, formerly the Hotel Villa Taype.
