$-$$, San Ignacio
Fodor's Review:
Set some 800 feet above limestone cliffs and the Macal River gorge, Black Rock may have the most beautiful setting of any lodge in the country. The well-shaded cabins, which come in deluxe, river-view, and shared-bath versions, have stone floors and custom-made hardwood furniture and views across Black Rock canyon. The ecoconscious management runs the lodge on hydro and solar power. Since you're a 35-minute drive (about BZ$50 by taxi) from San Ignacio, partly on a narrow, single-lane dirt trail, by necessity you'll take all your meals here (the full meal plan is BZ$70 per person) and do most tours with the lodge. Black Rock is under the same ownership as Caesar's Place hotel and gift shop at Mile 60, Western Highway.
