Once the island's most acclaimed restaurant, Capricorn continued to thrive when new owners took over in 2003, but since one of the new team members departed in 2005, things haven't been the same. The seaside setting is still romantic, and some dishes, such as the stone crab claws, provide a glimpse of the old Capricorn, but the cooking is inconsistent, and service is spotty. Although the focus here is on the restaurant, there are three cute little cabanas, but we've heard complaints about brackish water with a strong sulfur smell.

Great atmosphere, okay food.

The best thing about Capricorn is the boat ride under the stars to the restaurant (if you are staying on the southern side of the island) and the ambiance at the seaside restaurant. It is warmly decorated and very comfortable. I had fresh crab claws, which I enjoyed, but my boyfriend's meal, one of the fresh fish dishes, was less than impressive. We also had their chocolate cake for desert, which was good, but unimpressive. For the prices and high reviews, we would have expected to be "wowed". The service was also "just okay" - the waitstaff was friendly, but nothing outstanding. It was a little disconcerting to see them putting away (clearing away placesettings, candles, etc) the unoccupied tables as we were finishing our meal. My advice, take the boat ride to Capricorn, order a bottle of wine and an appetizer and enjoy the atmosphere.
