Gower Peninsula Review

This peninsula, which stretches westward from Swansea, was the first part of Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its shores are a succession of sheltered sandy bays and awesome headlands. The seaside resort of Mumbles, on the outskirts of Swansea, is the most famous town along the route. It's an elegantly faded place to wander on a sunny afternoon, with an amusement pier and seaside promenade. Farther along the peninsula, the secluded Pwlldu Bay can only be reached on foot from nearby villages like Southgate. A few miles westward is the more accessible (and very popular) Three Cliffs Bay, with its sweeping views and wide, sandy beach. At the far western tip of the peninsula, Rhossili has perhaps the best beach of all. Its unusual, snaking causeway—known locally as the Worm's Head—is inaccessible at high tide.

Awe-inspiring Landscapes to Feed Your Soul

With its vast populated history, stretching back as far as Lower Paleolithic times (250,000 BC), long-established stories, whether they be folklore, legend or fact, are plentiful and furnish the rich and delightful tapestry of the Gower Peninsula. The Gower Peninsula is a sacred place, imbued with myth and ancient mysticism. It's landscape contains a plethora of holy wells, standing stones, megalithic burial tombs and ritual cairns. Embroidered onto this hugely evocative series of archaeological monuments are a fascinating tapestry of folklore, ghost stories and faery tales. These enrich and bring the Gower Peninsula to life as much as any other of the region's attractions or amenities. Visit stunning Gower beaches for fun or relaxation; take a walk along Gower's dramatic coastline and cliffs, to blow away the cobwebs; or connect with the wild landscape of our ancient ancestors. Whether you plan a short break or a more lengthy stay, the Gower Peninsula offers a special place for everyone.
