Hatay Müzesi (Hatay Museum)

Hatay Müzesi (Hatay Museum) Review

Although little survives of old Antioch, the large collection of mosaics in the city's museum hint at the city's glorious past. Experts consider the dozens of Roman mosaics of Hatay Müzesi—portraying scenes from mythology and figures such as Dionysus, Orpheus, Oceanus, and Thetis—among the highest achievements of Roman art. There is a beautiful marble Sarcophagus and a giant statue of the Roman Emperor Lucius Verus. The area's preclassical past is also well represented—check out the 3,000-year-old, four-foot-tall lion, which entered the museum's garden by crane in 2011.
