Kaunos Review

The ancient ruins at Kaunos can be reached in about 15 to 30 minutes by boat from Dalyan, or find the geçit, a rowboat crossing, then walk south for 30 minutes. Up from the port is the agora, or market place, with a restored fountain house and a ruined portico dotted with the foundation of statues. Up the hill, past the nice temple terrace, is a crumbling Byzantine basilica, a massive Roman bath restored as a site museum, and a well-preserved semicircular theater cut into the hillside in the Greek style. Most of the remains date from the 4th century BC, and reflect a blend of Carian and Lycian influences. From the ruins there is a pretty clifftop walk to Ekincik, which takes three to four hours with the possibility of returning by boat.
