Anemurium Review

Five kilometers (3 mi) before Anamur is the marked turnoff to ancient Anemurium. The ruins here are extensive, mostly dating from the late Roman/early Byzantine period, and are built out of durable Roman concrete, which makes them better preserved but less picturesque than the average stone ruins. Beside the entrance is a bath building, once part of a gymnasium, with mosaics. Beyond this is a well preserved small theater or odeion, opposite which is the scant remains of the large theater. Beyond, a second Roman bath building is easily the best preserved in the country, with even its great vaulted roof standing. Beside the road there are also numerous Tombs, some with frescoes and mosaic. At the end of the road there's also a pebbly beach, where you can take a dip when you've finished, but no showers or other facilities. Beside the carpark is the Ören Antik Kent Restaurant, with kebabs and fish, and a nice view over the ruins and the sea.
