Rock tombs

Rock tombs Review

Impressive ancient Lycian rock tombs are carved into the cliff that looms above town. These can be admired from a distance. But if you’re keen to get an up-close look, follow the signs to Kaya Caddesi, near the local bus station, and then climb the many steps leading up. Your effort will be well rewarded—particularly at dusk, when the cliffs take on a reddish glow. The largest is the Tomb of Amyntas, presumably the burial place of a 4th-century-BC ruler or nobleman. Inside are the slabs where corpses were laid out.
