Fodor's Review

If you get overheated on the main road between Göcek and Fethiye—or just need an antidote to the relentless fashionability of the former—follow the brown sign south to Gunlüklü Beach. The name literally "the beach with Oriental sweetgum trees" and it comes from the government-protected Liquidambar orientalis whose aromatic sap has been harvested every summer for centuries, and which grow wild around the bay. The dark sand beach is a good place to stop for a picnic in a forest of small chestnut trees or to take a swim in the unspoiled bay. Be forewarned, though: this spot tends to get crowded on weekends with Turkish day-trippers from Fethiye, and the facilities can be a bit rough and ready. Amenities: food and drink; parking; showers; toilets (fee). Best for: swimming.
