Kaya/Kayaköy

The valley behind Fethiye promises a cooler climate and evocative ruins that are decidedly different from their ancient counterparts on the Mediterranean coast .Levissi, as Kayaköy was then known, was a thriving Greek community until 1923, when the villagers were moved out in a compulsory population exchange that saw Greek Orthodox Christians living in Turkey evicted from their homes. Nowadays it's essentially an overgrown ghost town, with some charming settlements on the edges. Several hotels and open-air restaurants are scattered among the olive trees.
