Off the Beaten Path
Undeveloped areas exist even in this region full of beaten paths. If you want to get away from the hubbub, Lake Bafa would be a good place to start. One hour north of popular Bodrum, the lake offers a peaceful place to swim and to spend time outdoors. There's a beautiful rustic resort here, the ruins at Heraklia are across the lake, and if you start to get bored, Bodrum is just a short bus ride away. Also near Bodrum, Çomakdagi is a beautiful village accessible by car. Although group tours do go there, it has only recently been discovered by locals and tourists, so you should have a pretty authentic experience. Milas and its neighboring sights would also make an enriching trip.
