Built in 1528 during the reign of Süleyman the Magnificent, this old inn next to Çesme's medieval castle is decorated in traditional Turkish style, with kilims and low wooden furniture. The in-house restaurant is excellent and in good weather serves in the stone courtyard, surrounded by the ancient stone walls of the Kervansaray; good choices include lamb kebabs with yogurt, cold eggplant salad, and börek (deep-fried pastry shells, here filled with goat cheese. Pros: historic setting; authentic look and feel. Cons: you have to travel to get to a decent beach.
