The Agora

The Agora Review

The agora at the foot of Kadifekale Hill, just off 816 Sokak (816 Street), was the Roman city's market. The present site is a large, dusty, open space surrounded by ancient columns and foundations. Part has been closed off for excavations, but there's still much to see, including the well-preserved Roman statues of Poseidon, Artemis, and Demeter at the northwest corner. To get here from Kadifekale, exit from the fortress's main gate and take the road that descends to the left; when you see steps built into the sidewalk, turn right and go down.
