An İzmir institution since the '60s, now under clockwork Swiss management, this swish business hotel is a serene place to recharge, with most rooms overlooking the Aegean or the lush gardens and outdoor pool. Rooms are modern, with wood- and leather-paneling, and a startling modern art collection enlivens the halls and grounds. The result, though, is that once inside, you might forget where you are.

The Swissotel Grand Efes Izmir came as a delightful, unexpected and very welcomed treat in the middle of an intensive tour of Turkey. We had just finished four nights on a small gullet in an even smaller cabin so entering a large ultra modern, immaculate room was fantastic. Every conceivable gadget, and fine design, superb bathroom, view made us almost jump for joy! The lobby was open and spacious, with plenty of International newspapers available
to read and the buffet breakfast was more than anyone could ask for. The hotel was located steps from the busy harbor front, where coffee, cold beers, and fine dining awaited us. Both the city of Izmir and the Swissotel Grand Efes were one of our favorite experiences in Turkey. It was a destination and hotel we would love to revisit. The rooms were
