By Train in Istanbul

By Train

Trains from Europe and the west (service is limited) arrive at Sirkeci Station, in Old Istanbul, near the Galata Bridge. Trains from Anatolia and the east currently come into Haydarpasa Station, on the Asian side, but Haydarpasa is due to be closed in 2007 as the railtrack is rerouted to link up with a tunnel which is being built under the Bosphorus and will provide the first ever rail link between the two shores of the city. At press time, however, work on the tunnel was progressing slower than anticipated and closure of Haydarpasa Station could be delayed until late 2007 or early 2008. Turkish trains are operated by the state-owned monopoly Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryollari (TCDD).
