Ayasofya Konaklari Review
Nine charming, pastel-color wooden mansions from the late 19th century have been restored by Turkey's Touring and Automobile Club and turned into a row of elegant guest houses, where smallish rooms are furnished in period Ottoman style, with brass beds and chandeliers, wooden floors and furniture, and plush upholstery, and have either half-size tubs or showers. Their location, along Sogukçesme Sokak—a picturesque, pedestrian-only street that runs along the outer wall of Topkapi Palace—is unbeatable. Front rooms have up-close views of Aya Sofya, but the rest do not, so be sure to ask when you reserve. Breakfast is served in summer in a shaded garden.
