Since the first House Cafe opened in Nisantasi in 2002, this minichain serving upscale comfort food has successfully expanded to 10 locations, without losing any of its appeal or quality. The eggs Benedict, pancakes, and other breakfast dishes are superb, and the massive burger is a delicious, juicy mess. The salad selection is vast—the warm artichoke and prawn combination is a standout—and the thin-crust pizzas are also delicious. With exposed brick walls and tables of solid oak, the place has the right combination of sophistication and hominess. A new branch on Istiklal Caddesi is popular and busy; the older one in Beyoglu's charming Asmalimescit area is quieter. Ortaköy's branch has a terrace overlooking the Bosphorus, while the one in chic Nisantasi has a shady garden.
