This Sultanahmet restaurant in a renovated Ottoman house on a quiet backstreet started off more than 40 years ago as a simple fish shack that could barely seat 10 people; it's now known as one of the best places in Istanbul for seafood. Along with the wide assortment of expertly grilled fish, specialties include a pilaf made with mussels, rice, and currants, and a bouillabaisse-like fish stew. It's especially appealing in summer, when tables are set up outside in a shaded, cobblestoned plaza. Expect to pay a fair amount, as the place is a favorite among moneyed Turks.
