It's not easy to find this seventh-floor rooftop restaurant—it's in an apartment building with only a small sign out front—but persevere (ask directions), because the reward is a magnificent view overlooking the Bosphorus and Sultanahmet's historical monuments. The kitchen turns out solid, though unremarkable, versions of international food: nachos, tandoori chicken, and grilled sea bass, as well as desserts like tiramisu and cheesecake; brunch is also served. The furniture is minimalist but stylish, and a greenhouse-like glass roof lets the sun, or the stars, peek in at the hip crowd of locals and expats who frequent the restaurant.

The best meal I had in Istanbul, and I ate well in Istanbul. It’s airy, the décor is simple and modern, and tables offer stupendous views of the Bosphorus. The food is based on traditional elements (for example, roasted lamb with pomegranate sauce) and yet was presented in a thoroughly contemporary way. Delicious bread, prompt and polite service. Casual dress, but I’d suggest not jeans. Reserve in advance—it’s a popular date destination.
